Flighty Careers
Aviation Correspondent
About Flighty
Flighty is the award-winning flight tracker trusted by frequent flyers, aviation nerds, and anxious travelers alike. We deliver real-time status, delay predictions, and beautiful visualizations that often beat the airline to the punch. Flighty is an Apple Design Award winner and App of the Year finalist, with a 4.8+ rating.
We are a tiny, elite, product-obsessed team distributed across the world. Our team spans 7 countries. We care deeply about details, honesty in our data, and shipping features that genuinely reduce stress for travelers.
We’re looking for an Aviation Correspondent to support media needs of Flighty.
You’ll own Flighty’s global disruption coverage across social and other public channels. Your job is to make Flighty the default expert voice during major disruption events by combining live data, expert analysis, and clear explanations for a broad audience.
When the system is breaking, you’ll explain what’s happening, why it’s happening, who it affects, and what travelers should do next. You’ll also represent Flighty publicly during major disruption events through live streams, interviews, and media appearances.
This role runs on “business hours + surge coverage.” Most days are normal. Some days are chaos. You need to be available when major events are unfolding and when media coverage is active.
This role is ideal for you if…
You love aviation and you’re great at explaining it.
You’re fast, accurate, and you take pride in being right more than being first.
You can take messy ops reality and turn it into a clean narrative people can follow.
You’re comfortable being a public-facing voice, including live segments and interviews when things are chaotic.
You’re excited about Flighty’s product and want to help shape how we communicate during the moments users care about most.
What you'll do
Own Flighty’s live disruption coverage across social and other public channels, with a clear cadence in calm periods and surge coverage during major events.
Combine Flighty’s live data with trusted external signals to explain what’s happening and why (weather, ATC initiatives, airport constraints, airline ops, strikes, outages, cascading network effects).
Translate IRROPS into plain English: what it means for travelers right now, what typically happens next, and what to do (or not do).
Cover both major disruption events and the less obvious operational stories: unusual delay patterns, atypical constraints, edge cases, and occasional positive anomalies like jetstream-driven early arrivals.
Produce fast, native short-form video (Instagram Stories, Reels, TikTok)
Create lightweight visuals that improve comprehension: stories, explainers, annotated screenshots, maps etc.
Act as a Flighty spokesperson during major disruption events via live stream, TV, radio, podcasts, and press quotes, with occasional travel as needed.
Systemize what works by building a “disruption playbook” for Flighty: templates, thresholds for posting, terminology standards, escalation rules, and a repeatable cadence so we can reproduce our best coverage reliably.
What success looks like
In the first 90 days:
Flighty has a consistent cadence for disruption coverage, and followers know where to look when things go sideways.
During major events, Flighty becomes a go-to source that people quote and share.
Our posts reliably answer the real questions: what’s causing this, who’s affected, how long it might last, and what travelers should do next.
We’re consistently combining live data + expert interpretation (not just reposting headlines).
Journalists start coming to Flighty proactively for comment during major events.
What we're looking for
Must have:
A background in aviation, journalism, airline ops, dispatch, ATC, airport ops, meteorology, or data-driven aviation analysis.
Strong aviation literacy and curiosity. You understand the common operational causes behind delays and cancellations, and you can explain them without jargon.
Strong editorial judgment. You know what’s confirmed vs likely vs unknown, and you communicate that responsibly.
Comfortable being public-facing, including live interviews and quick turnarounds during breaking events.
Comfortable creating or assembling simple visuals.
Ability to write high-signal posts quickly and communicate clearly on camera.
Ability to independently shoot and edit short-form video with fast turnaround.
Self-motivated and comfortable working independently in a remote-first environment.
Willingness to occasionally travel for team off-sites.
Nice to have:
Experience building an audience through clear, trustworthy reporting on social.
Prior media experience (TV, radio, podcasts, live streaming), including clips you can share.
Design experience (or strong visual instincts) for making polished stories and simple graphics quickly (eg. Figma, Canva, AI, or similar).
Strong network in aviation and/or media, with the ability to source information quickly.
What we offer
Top quartile salary.
Generous performance-based bonus.
Unlimited growth opportunities.
Fully remote work. No commuting required.
Any hardware and software you need.
Generous and flexible paid time off.
Health insurance (US).
Annual worldwide team retreat.
