How does Connection Assistant work in Flighty?

Flighty’s Connection Assistant takes the stress out of making your connecting flight. It tracks both of your flights in real time and calculates a personalized connection estimate based on your route, airport, nationality, if you need to re-check bags, seat location, and more.

At a glance, you’ll know whether your connection is relaxed, normal, tight, or at risk, and then get step-by-step instructions for what you'll actually need to do to reach your departure gate. Included with Flighty Pro, Connections Assistant works for any airline, at any airport, and for every connecting flight, including Flighty Friends' flights.

How does Flighty estimate the typical times?
Flighty outlines the required steps to reach your connecting flights and estimates how long each typically takes.

Depending on your connection, your estimate may include time to:

  • Deplane from your arriving flight (based on your seat if added in Flight Details).

  • Clear immigration and passport control (based on your passport and destination requirements. To add your passport, tap Avatar → Edit Profile → Passport.)

  • Claim and recheck checked baggage.

  • Clear security screening.

  • Transfer between terminals (walking, airtrain, shuttle bus, etc.).

  • Reach your departure gate.

…and more! It will adapt to your specific airport, route, circumstances, because no flyer, or trip, is the same.

Flighty also predicts your arrival and departure gates based on your flight's historical gates, helping provide a more accurate estimate before gates are officially assigned.

How is this different from MCT?
MCT (Minimum Connection Time) is the official minimum connection time used by airlines and airports when selling tickets. It represents the shortest connection considered possible for a particular type of itinerary. If your itinerary meets the airport’s MCT, it’s considered a valid connection. If it doesn’t, airlines generally won’t sell it as a single booking.

Flighty uses MCT as the input when determining whether your connection is relaxed, normal, tight, or at risk. You will see that on top of Connection Assistant.

Typical time and connection steps starts with MCT as the baseline, but then personalizes it to your journey. It considers the actual steps you’ll need to take, along with factors like your passport, whether you’ll need to collect and re-check bags, your seat location, your predicted arrival and departure gates, and live flight conditions.

Will Connection Assistant update in real-time?
Yes. Flighty continuously monitors both flights and automatically updates your connection status as conditions change.

If your inbound flight is delayed or your connection becomes at risk, Flighty will notify you automatically so you can react as early as possible.
